GULF BREEZE, FLA. – On November 17, 2021 Carollyn Taylor launched her campaign to represent Pensacola and Gulf Breeze in the Florida House of Representatives. This news comes on the heels of a 2020 election result swing that shocked politicians in Tallahassee. The Florida Panhandle is home to the largest shift of votes away from the Republican Party. While the public only recently took notice of the shift, this largely ignored trend existed for multiple election cycles.

As a matter of fact, Democrats have narrowed the Republican margin of victory year after year. In 2016 Republican Mike Hill won House District 2 by nearly 18,000 votes. In 2020, Dianne Krumel narrowed the margin of victory to 10,000 votes. Within one presidential election cycle, Alex Andrade (R) lost ground in the margin of victory by 44%. This drift away from Republican candidates comes as Pensacola voters reject the radical right-wing agenda that is growing increasingly conspiratorial and out of touch with Floridians.
The Santa Rosa Democratic Party published links to Andrade’s donor list. The list included multiple high dollar donations from the Florida Republican Party. This district, located in the Deep South, should be an automatic win for Republicans. But the Florida GOP was so worried about Andrade’s candidacy, that it gave his campaign $50,000 to defeat Krumel.
So the question is:
What is the Florida Democratic Party doing to support popular candidates like Carollyn Taylor?
Taylor, has an enormous Pensacola following, with tons of campaign experience. She helped carry Dr. Jennifer Zimmerman to a vigorous congressional primary victory. In the general election against Matt Gaetz, Dr. Zimmerman (D) outperformed Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum and U.S. Senator Bill Nelson. Carollyn also worked for the Elizabeth Warren Campaign. She brings a wealth of knowledge to this race including military and veteran advocacy.
